Updates and Announcements

14-March Announcement

In accordance with a directive from SCISA Executive Director Spencer Jordan, SCISA schools will suspend standard classroom instruction from 17 March through 31 March.

As for Lowcountry Preparatory School, here is our schedule for Monday:

•    0745: Members of the faculty and staff report to school

•    0800:  Students report to home room at school and 1) provide to home room teacher an e-mail address for use with Zoom (distance teaching and learning), and  2) collect textbooks and other academic material and depart campus (no classes).

•    0900:  Members of the faculty and staff meet in MS/US Room 404 for instruction in Zoom, which we will use for distance teaching and learning. Bring laptops.

Teachers will continue to teach via Zoom beginning on 17 March and ending on 31 March.  In-classroom courses are scheduled to resume on 1 April.  Assistant Head of School Jeanie Floyd will provide written directions to parents and students on the proper operation of Zoom.  An alternative means of instruction will be offered to those who cannot operate Zoom.

Look for timely updates as we move forward.  Please refrain from non-emergency e-mails as members of our faculty and staff focus upon transitioning to distance teaching and learning–excellent distance teaching and learning.

V/R, Scott

22-March Announcement

Hello, LPS Parents.  One of the costs, if you will, of the transition to online classrooms is the increased burden upon you.  We seek to reduce that burden through two measures.

First, we have created a spreadsheet, “Lowcountry Preparatory School Virtual Learning Information Sheet–March 2020,”  (attached) that lists by grade the teacher, subject, time period, days per week, link by subject to Zoom classroom, office hours information, Google Classroom information, means of homework notification, and name of the grade level coordinator.

Second, we have appointed grade level coordinators.  These coordinators will send you one e-mail per day–as opposed to multiple e-mails by multiple teachers each day–with updates for every subject for that particular grade.

We would be grateful for your candid feedback in terms of the helpfulness or lack of helpfulness of these measures, as well as recommendations for other measures to help you.  Meanwhile, we thank you for your patience and support as we press ahead with our online classrooms.

Go, Marlins!  V/R, Scott

25-March Announcement

Dear LPS Parents,

Following Governor Henry McMaster’s announcement on 24 March 2020 of the extension of the closure of schools through April 2020, SCISA Executive Director Spencer Jordan directed adherence to the Governor’s directive.  Accordingly, we plan to continue to operate our virtual classrooms during that period.  We do, however, plan to observe our Easter Break originally scheduled for 10-17 April 2020.

As we continue to operate our virtual classrooms, please continue to provide constructive criticism.  Continuous improvement applies to virtual classrooms, as well.  We thank you for your patience and support.  We are determined to emerge from this international predicament a stronger school, more capable and effective in educating our students.

Finally, we as a school community are not the only ones pressing ahead optimistically and undeterred.  Take a look at this uplifting YouTube posting:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eXT60rbBVk

Thursday 9th grade 2:00-2:45 pm
Friday 10th grade 2:00-2:45 pm

While the class is optional, we recommend you check it out! The first topic is “Edible Art.” Ms. Johnson will send out a self-created video prior to class to allow students time to brainstorm ideas.

22-April Announcement

Lowcountry Preparatory School will continue to operate via the virtual classroom through the end of the academic year.  This decision follows Governor McMaster’s announcement minutes ago that K-12 public schools will remain closed and SCISA Executive Director Spencer Jordan’s direction that SCISA member schools do likewise.  Our students and teachers have performed exceptionally well in the virtual classroom, and we are confident they will maintain their high level of performance through the end of the academic year.

We are grateful to you, parents, for your strong support of our teachers since the transition to the virtual classroom.  That support has been a key source of encouragement to our teachers who are doing their very best to take care of your children, our students.

Let’s press ahead together—go, Marlins!
